Lesson of the day: Big NO NO…. to Petroleum Jelly

Thursday, January 29th, 2009 | Makeup Tips, Products | No Comments

This couple of months working in a counter i have incountered clients who uses Petroleum Jelly as there moisturizer for there face. It is a big mistake. We all know it is cheap but it is not worth it if it is clogging your pores and will give you black heads later on. Do you really want that? Generally, petroleum jelly is safe to use. Rarely, however, inhaling fat-based substances (lipoids) — such as petroleum jelly or mineral oil — for prolonged periods can cause lung problems. It is still used in most of the cosmetic companies but pls choose carefully and read the ingredients you dont want paraffins into your system.

Now a days there are a lot of organic products to choose from one of my favorites is the AVEDA Hydrating Lotion.

<!— Key Ingredients:
—> Camomile extract, Coconut-derived emollients, Jojoba oil, Lavender extract, Palm-derived emollient, Rice bran oil

tip 1. Always consider your skin type before buying any moisturizer. if your oily skin. ofcourse dont get the one that is oil based because it will make it worse. Dont afraid or get intimidated to ask help. The lady in the counter knows more about the product than you do.

Tip 2. When your using your foundation on top of your moisturizer always consider getting the same product line. think about it as Shampoo and Conditioner. If you used a different conditioner what happend to your hair? it contradicts its purpose. Now here you come complaining why your foundation doesnt last the whole day. Because your moisturizer has different ingredient that counter acts with your foundation. So choose carefully when buying a moisturizer and do your home work!

I hope this comes as a warning to everyone and please just leave the use of petroleum jelly to DIAPER RASH!

Harlem 2008 Fashion show

Last year,Harlem 2008 was held in Richmond Convention Center. I was given a great opportunity to do one of the models makeup her name is Jasmine. As you can see in the picture it is all about PLAYING WITH COLORS. I created this look so she stands out even from a far.  When doing a Run Way Makeup, you have to consider what lighting they will be using. Either indoor/ outdoor, time and location, season and also coordinate with the designer/hairstylist.These simple clues can help you work your way to do a great look. As you can see on the photos the location is dark. This is the time wherein you pick the eye color and the lip color. I started with a moisturizer, then Primer(prep and prime) to make the foundation last longer. next i start working on the eyes.I know most of my clients wonder why i do my makeup that way. It is because if i start with foundation i have to go back and clean the eyeshadow pigments that came all the way down to your cheek area and i would retouch tt. So for everyone out there who is learning how to apply makeup on themselves this rule can help you shorten your time applying makeup. After applying the pink and blue eyeshadow i wasnt satisfied so i added a yellow eyeshadow in the inner corner of her eye and it made alot of difference. TIP: dont be afraid of colors, makeup is not surgery. It can be erased with a good makeup remover. so dont panic if things dont go the way you want.  next lets move on to her lips. see how bright that pink she wore? i love dazzleglass lipgloss. first, I used a bright pink lip pencil Magenta (mac) and then added lipstick called girl about town by Mac and the lipgloss. She is now set for RUN WAY!
